This time we will review MB5050 from Canon's MAXIFY range. Canon MAXIFY MB5050 is all in one small office inkjet printer, with a recommended print volume of up to 1,500 pages per month. It’s a great looking, well designed A4 printer that’ll fit well in almost any small office environment. Starting at the top, there’s a 50 sheet automatic document feeder, built into the lid of the flatbed scanner, both of which give great quality scans.
The ADF can scan at up to 18ppm, meaning you wont be stood around the printer all day waiting for your scans. There’s then a control panel, featuring a 7.5cm touch screen display, and a few shortcut buttons, all of which make this printer very easy to use. The cartridges for this machine are Canon’s PGI-2500 XL cartridges and can yield up to around 1,500 pages for colour, and 2,500 pages for black. The ink itself is pigment based, allowing for sharper text and longer lasting colour, than dye based inks. Making this machine better suited for text documents, with occasional graphics and image printing. At the bottom of the printer there’s a single paper cassette rated for 250 sheets of standard office paper, weighing up to around 105gsm. The single paper tray will limit some people, as it makes this printer less versatile than others in the range, but for users printing on plain paper, it shouldn’t be an issue.
You can connect to the MB5050 via USB and network cables, there’s a USB port for direct printing and scanning, and there’s also built in wireless connectivity. This allows you to print via Apple’s AirPrint and Google Cloud Print, as well as use MAXIFY Cloud Link, giving you access to various online resources. It prints at up to 23ppm on its fastest setting, and can get a page out in as little as 7 seconds providing good enough performance to keep up with the demands of small businesses. We think the MB5050 will be a great addition to a small office, offering great colour printing, media flexibility and versatile connection options.
