HP OfficeJet 7110 Colour Inkjet Printer is an A3+ inkjet printer perfect for home users and small businesses that are looking for an affordable way to make larger prints. For those that don’t know, A3+ is more than twice the size of A4, so if you’re making things like posters, leaflets and signs, they’ll have real impact if using a machine as big as this. It’s rated for paper weighing from 60, all the way up to 250gsm, and will also handle certain HP photo papers, some weighing up to 300gsm.

Knowing this, we think this printer would be great for students, printing off photography and artwork. The ink cartridges that come with the printer are estimated to yield around 400 pages for black and 330 pages for colour, so there’s a fair amount in there, considering the 7110 is built to print around 800 pages per month. We recommend you add some replacement cartridges to your order, so you’re ready to refill the printer. The standard yield cartridges give up to around 825 pages for colour, and up to 1,000 pages for black, so if you had this printer maxed out at it’s recommended monthly print volume, you’d be changing the cartridges about once every month. Changing the cartridges couldn’t be easier. Just open the cartridge door, pop out the old one, and install the new. The inks for this machine are pigment based, which are typically more hardwearing than their Dye based counterparts.

More often than not, dye based inks are vulnerable to moisture, inevitably smudging and running on the page if the paper gets wet. Pigment inks however consist of coloured particles suspended in a solution. They are not water soluble, and prints made with pigment inks will be less likely to run or smudge when exposed to moisture. Because of this, most business inkjet printers and arts printers use pigment inks, as the technology has improved over the years, and is proving dye-based inks to be obsolete. Pigment blacks also tend to provide sharper text printing than dye, meaning you could get a laser like quality, on an inkjet machine. When it comes to printing on the 7110, the quality is great, the colours stand out on various media types, and the text is spot on. There’s only one thing could possibly be considered a negative, and that is, there’s no duplex printing as standard. Duplex is possible, but you’ll need an optional extra. This may put people off, but think about it.

HP OfficeJet 7110 price is around £150 including VAT. The duplex unit is around £50, so you can have a wireless A3+ duplex printer capable of great looking borderless prints, for around £200. No one else can offer that, and we think it’s a good deal. It also keeps costs down for people that don’t want duplex capabilities. So we think it’s a win win. HP say that the 7110 can print at up to 32ppm on its fastest setting, so as a regular office printer it’s not too bad at all, but bare in mind, as it’s only recommended for around 800 pages per month, it’s not suitable for busy offices. USB, Network and wireless connection options make for a versatile printer, and this along with the media handling and big print size means this device is sure to be popular amongst small offices and students.
